The #1-seed Dike-New Hartford girls basketball team will take on #4-seed Sioux Central in a girls basketball Class 2A semifinal Friday at Wells Fargo Arena.
Two wins away from a fourth consecutive state title, the Wolverine enter off a 58-28 win over Cascade in Tuesday’s quarterfinal. In that game, the Wolverines took control and led throughout while executing a defensive gameplan that held Cascade’s top scorers in check. While Payton Petersen and Jadyn Petersen were held to nine points apiece, Maryn Bixby scored 25 points and hit seven three-pointers.
In their first ever state tournament appearance, Sioux Central is coming off a 52-48 win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in Tuesday’s quarterfinal. They led 26-10 after the first quarter, but were outscored in the second through third quarters as the Rockets nearly completed a comeback. A powerful scoring lineup is led by Bradi Krager with 18 points per game, and Avery Wilson adds 17 per game for a team that commits just 11 turnovers per game.
The game will tip off at 10:00 a.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 9:30 on 99 The Wave. The winner will advance to Saturday’s championship game against either Panorama or Westwood.
