The North Central Conference has denied an application from Charles City to join the league.
Two conference superintendents voted to reject the application. According to the league’s constitution, new schools may be admitted to the league by a vote of the member schools, but applications are rejected if two or more schools vote against it.
Charles City is a member of the Northeast Iowa Conference, which has had several schools announce their intention to depart. The Charles City School Board voted to submit an application to the North Central Conference at its February 12 meeting. Waverly-Shell Rock’s expulsion from the league in 2023 began a chain reaction by other schools to find new conferences to join.
