The Dike-New Hartford girls basketball team has entered the record books as the second girls basketball team to win four consecutive championships in the IGHSAU era. The Wolverines defeated Panorama in this year’s Class 2A championship game to accomplish the feat.

Seniors Jadyn Petersen and Maryn Bixby say it’s a testament to the standard set by the coaching staff and previous teams who helped pave the way for greatness.

“We definitely can’t take all the credit,” Petersen says. “our coaches are amazing, our community is amazing, and you know, the leaders before us were really awesome as well.”

“It’s really special and I’d just like to give props to the people who have gone through our program,” Bixby says. “They set the standards for us. They taught us as young kids how to play basketball, so I think you have to give it back to the program and what they’ve done for everyone.”

Senior Payton Petersen hopes the team is remembered for its character displayed while winning titles in both basketball and volleyball.

“I hope people look back and realize that we did win seven state championships, but we’re more than that,” Petersen says. “We are great people, we’re nice people. We try to be there for people. We’re not just going to be like, oh, we won seven state championships, da da da. We’re humble people, we try to be humble. So I hope that’s what they remember about us, that we’re hardworking, we’re humble, and that we won seven state championships.”

The three earned Class 2A all-tournament team honors, captained by Payton Petersen.

The Wolverines went 26-2.
