Aplington-Parkersburg senior Gavin Thomas will continue a tradition of AP boys basketball players appearing in the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association’s Pizza Ranch All-Star Games when he competes Saturday at Dallas Center-Grimes High School.
Thomas looks forward to the day, where he’ll compete among some other standout players from the NICL.
“Grateful for that opportunity,” Thomas says. “Only 40 kids get selected so it’s just really neat to be a part of something like that and be able to play high school basketball in a sense one more time with a great group of guys on my team, so I should enjoy it.”
Head Coach Aaron Thomas says Gavin joins an elite group of former Falcon players who competed in past all-star games.
“He’s looking forward to that,” Thomas says. “He’ll be on the same team as Jack Miller and Camden Davis. Guys, he went at it for many years now to play and be together with those three guys from the NICL. I think they’ll go out and make a good showing, tie it with some of those other big guys from the metro. But a great accomplishment. We’ve been very fortunate. I think Gavin’s our fifth guy selected in the last eight years. And you go back to 10 years, we’ve had six guys with Ross Cooper, Alec Oberhauser, Carter Cuvelier, Jayden Mackie, Garrett Hempen and now Gavin to be join that group. It’s a pretty special thing to be selected and honored in that elite company of the state.”
The first games of the day will start at 10:15 a.m.
