
The Grundy Center boys track & field team earned the Class A championship at Thursday’s Belle Plaine Invitational. The Spartans earned the title with 141 team points.
Champions included Tyler Venenga in the 800-meter run, Tiernan Vokes in the 110-meter hurdles, Tate Jirovsky in the 400-meter hurdles, Emerson Vokes in the 3200-meter run, Judd Jirovsky in the long jump, Kasey Seitz in the shot put and the shuttle hurdle relay.
Second place finishers included Jacob Hoy in the 110-meter hurdles, the 4×200-meter relay, 4×400-meter relay and the distance medley relay.
Third place finishers included Brody Zinkula in the 400-meter dash, Gabe McMartin in the 400-meter hurdles, Tiernan Vokes in the high jump, the 4×100-meter relay and sprint medley relay.
The Spartans will return to action in a home coed meet Tuesday.
At Byrnes Park in Waterloo, the Spartan boys tennis team fell to Waterloo Columbus 8-1. Grundy Center is now 0-1 in duals and will be at Nevada on Friday, April 5.
