Dike-New Hartford spring sports update – 3/29/24

The Dike-New Hartford girls soccer team began its season with a 4-0 home win over Union Thursday.

With 6:31 left in the first half, Ana Bering blasted in a long goal from 35 yards out to put the Wolverines up 1-0, which was the halftime score. Just over two minutes into the second half, Bering added her second goal to stretch the lead to 2-0. With 25 minutes left, Lucy Varney attacked the goal from the left and scored to increase the lead to 3-0. With just over two minutes left, Miranda Tyler recorded her second career goal after switching from goalkeeper to midfielder, finishing the scoring. The 1-0 Wolverines will be at Waterloo Columbus on Monday.

The Wolverine track & field teams were at a coed meet at Waverly-Shell Rock. The girls placed second with 106.5 points. The boys placed third with 108 points.
Girls first place finishers included Izzy Houts in the 1500-meter run and the 4×100-meter relay. Second place finishers included Macie Graves in the 200-meter dash, Chloe Paulsen in the 400-meter dash and Izzy Houts in the 3000-meter run. Third place finishers included Macie Graves in the 100-meter dash, Ashtyn Weber in the 100-meter hurdles, the 4×400-meter relay and the 4×800-meter relay. The Wolverines will be back in action Tuesday at Jesup.

Boys champions included Cameron Decker in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Runners-up included Devon Lotts in the 400-meter dash, Tyson Bennett in the 400-meter hurdles and the sprint medley relay. Dawson Dietrick placed third in the discus. The Wolverines will return to action Monday at Cedar Falls.
