The Aplington-Parkersburg girls and AP/DNH boys soccer teams will take on Hudson Monday. The boys will host the Pirates in Aplington and the girls will play at #9 (1A) Hudson.
The Falcon girls will look to build off a strong start to their season, which began with a 2-0 win over GC-GR Thursday. The offense was effective, having connected on two of eight shots on goal, a percentage that leads the North Iowa Cedar League so far. Goalkeeper Emma Haan had 12 saves in the win. Hudson is 1-0, having defeated #8 (1A) Denver in Thursday’s season opener. The Pirates only connected on one of 21 shots, but recorded 17 saves. The Pirates have eight starters from last year’s state tournament team. It’ll be a rematch of last year’s regional semifinal, won by Hudson 3-0.
The United will look to bounce back from Thursday’s season-opening 3-1 loss to GC-GR, where they scored first but gave up three straight scores. The United only had three shots on goal, but defensively, only allowed nine shots to their opponents. Hudson is 1-0, having defeated Denver 1-0 in Thursday’s season opener. Like the United, the Pirates have eight starters back from last year’s team which finished 9-8. Hudson swept the series last year, winning 2-1 and 3-2.
The boys game will air on 99 The Wave. Coverage will begin at 4:50 p.m., followed by the kickoff at 5:00.
