The West Fork girls track and field team, in addition to striving for individual PRs, is working on strengthening team culture this season.

Head Coach Ashley Sears says team bonding activities and getting reps in respective events this spring has helped the team.

“It’s a goal of mine to create a good team atmosphere, so we’ve had some fun together doing different team bonding events,” says Sears. “It does get to be very individual, so we try to do some things to make everybody still feel and realize this is a team. It’s about getting times in for you, getting splits, seeing what you’re capable of. We’re treating meets as a practice to, they’re just a practice to improve. Each of them needs to get better every day and we’ll be able to see what their able to accomplish in May.”

Warhawks returning state qualifiers include Breckyn Dickman in the shot put, Keara Wood and Abby Schoning in shuttle hurdle relay, and Joanna Wallace in the 4x400m relay.  Sears says returning Warhawk upperclassman and state qualifiers have done a good job in mentorship roles.

“Preslee Dickman on our short sprints and Breea Weaver, senior, Mallory Meyer looking for some big things from them. Keara Wood also on a state qualifying shuttle hurdle from last year. Joanna Wallace is also good, qualified with 4×4 last year. All four of them have been showing up to practice and really being good leaders and helping the freshmen get acclimated to working hard.”

The Warhawks first outdoor meet is at Osage on Tuesday.
