Mike Holm recently joined the Mort’s Water Company sports beat to talk about taking on a new role as the head coach of Iowa Falls-Alden boys basketball.

Holm brings great experience to the role as a former assistant coach at SCMT under Warhawk hall of fame coach Frank Schnoes, and as an assistant at Hampton-Dumont under Heath Walton for 19 years. Holm says he is ready to get to work and wants to set a trend of consistent improvement in the program.

“I am excited and I can’t wait to get going,” says Holm. “I want it to be a team that reflects on me as a person as somebody who’s going to get after it. We’re going to get better everyday, that is one of the major goals. We don’t want to have a good week and then plateau for a while. We want to get better every night in practice, in games  and make it competitive. The kids are going to have a great time doing this.”

Holm says being adaptive and hardworking will be core concepts.

“Our philosophy is going to be, we have to be flexible and be able to adapt to what kind of kids we have. I am not going to put in some kind of a system, but we’re going to work and hit our highs. We want to hang our hat on the defensive end, we want to be scrappy, we want to rebound well. We want to be that team that no matter what the outcome is the other coach is saying, man your kids play really really hard.”

After graduating five seniors, the Cadets are projected to return five upperclassman with varsity minutes, including top performers in juniors Carter Weaver and Kale Kalous.

Iowa Falls was 6-17 last season.
