Aplington-Parkersburg spring sports update – 4/5/24

The Aplington-Parkersburg boys tennis team dropped its season-opening matches at a triangular hosted by #5 (1A) North Polk. The Falcons lost to the Comets 7-2 and #10 (1A) Ballard 6-3. Against Ballard, the Falcons had wins by Tate Neymeyer at #1 singles, Gabe Jacobson at #5 singles and Neymeyer/Keegan Bolhuis at #2 doubles. Against North Polk, the Falcons had wins by Jacobson at #5 singles and Tommy Janssen at #6 singles. The Falcons are 0-2 and will be at Iowa Falls-Alden Monday.

The girls tennis team lost 5-4 at South Hardin. The Falcons got wins at #1 singles, #2 singles, #1 doubles and #2 doubles. The Falcons will be at St. Edmond Friday.

The girls soccer team earned a 2-0 home win over Waterloo Columbus. The teams played 74 scoreless minutes, but the Falcons got on the board with a free kick by Carley Hook with 5:20 left in the second half. In the final minute, Ciara Troyna added another goal to double the lead. It was the program’s first win over Columbus Catholic. The 2-1 Falcons will return to action Friday at Wright County.

The AP/DNH boys soccer team earned an 8-0 win at Waterloo Columbus. The United held a 1-0 halftime lead, but took control by scoring seven times in the second half. Walker Weedman and Parker Mulder each scored twice. Jayce Jensen, Ty Luhring, Gavin Bernard and Blane Schmitt each scored once. The United are 2-1 and will be at a tournament at Postville Saturday.

In other Friday action, the girls track & field team will compete in its first outdoor meet of the season at South Hardin at 4:30 p.m. The AP/DNH girls golf team will be at a meet at Oelwein at 4:00 p.m.
