Parkersburg Police Chief David Jara has been charged with serving alcohol after hours, a simple misdemeanor.

According to court records, at 2:09 a.m. on Sunday, February 11, a Butler County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a compliance check at Maddog’s Sports Bar in Parkersburg. Before entering the bar, the officer observed three individuals on the sidewalk outside, one of whom was holding a beer. Upon entering the bar, the officer observed alcohol containers and cash on the bar in front of patrons.

According to Iowa law, businesses must end alcohol sales at 2:00 a.m.

During an interview with law enforcement, Jara admitted to being employed by the bar and serving alcohol on that date. The bar’s owner and liquor licensee confirmed that Jara is an employee at the bar, whose duties involve serving alcohol and collecting payment from customers.

An initial court appearance is set for April 16.
