The Dike-New Hartford golf teams split a dual with Hudson at South Hills Golf Course in Waterloo Monday. The DNH/AP girls won 194-252 and the Dike-New Hartford boys lost 163-181. Keely Kauten was the leading girls golfer with a 46 and Kendall Riherd was the runner-up with a 48. Lewis Textor led the DNH boys team, finishing runner-up with a 41. Both teams will host East Marshall and Jesup for their home opener on Thursday.
The girls soccer team won 2-0 at Aplington-Parkersburg, a game that aired on 99 The Wave. Lucy Varney broke a scoreless tie with a penalty kick at the 31:12 mark of the second half. It was followed seven minutes later by a long goal by Gentry Swarts. Head Coach Emma Eden says her team outlasted the Falcons in a physical battle.
“The girls have a lot of endurance so they can outrun outlast a lot of opponents, which came in handy tonight,” Eden says. “I think we’ve always been able to find the goal but now we’re starting to put it in so that’s great and we’re starting to crash more there too.”
Miranda Tyler recorded five saves. The 3-1 Wolverines will host North Fayette Valley Tuesday.
In other Tuesday action, the 2-0 girls tennis team will go for their third win in as many meets when they host Aplington-Parkersburg. Action will begin at 4:15 p.m.
The track & field teams will be in action in different locations. The girls will join a mix of conference and non-conference opponents at the Hudson Girls Relays at 4:30. The boys will be at the Gerry Lenguadoro Cadet Relays at Iowa Falls-Alden. The only NICL team in attendance, they’ll join teams from the Northeast Iowa, North Central and Top of Iowa conferences. The meet will begin at 5:00.
