Grundy Center spring sports update – 4/9/24

The Grundy Center boys tennis team was defeated 8-1 at Waverly-Shell Rock Monday. The lone win was by Tanner Laube at #1 singles, who needed a third set to defeat Benny Ramker 2-6, 6-0, 6-4. The Spartans are 0-3 and will host Hampton-Dumont-CAL Thursday.

The girls tennis team dropped a 9-0 meet at home to Waverly-Shell Rock. Kaydence Kuiper at #6 singles and Kuiper/Kamren Thomas-Henley at #3 doubles forced tiebreaker sets, but fell 9-7 in eight-game pro sets. The 0-2 Spartans will be at Aplington-Parkersburg Thursday.

The golf teams swept triangulars against South Hardin and Gladbrook-Reinbeck at Oakleaf Golf & Country Club. The girls scored 204, topping South Hardin’s 237 and Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s 291. The boys scored 156, topping South Hardin’s 185 and Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s 202. The girls will host AGWSR and Oelwein for a triangular Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. at Town & Country Golf Club. The boys will join Wapsie Valley at a triangular at Waterloo Columbus Thursday.

In other Tuesday action, the girls track & field team will compete at Hudson and the boys track & field team will be at Jesup. Both meets will start at 4:30.
