Four Aplington-Parkersburg spring sports teams were in action Tuesday.
At Maple Hills Country Club in Tripoli, the boys golf team shot a 168 to defeat AGWSR and Wapsie Valley in a triangular. The Falcons won by a wide margin, topping AGWSR’s 186 and Wapsie Valley’s 188. Caleb Campbell won medalist honors with a 41. Cormick Steege and Mason Ridder were among four golfers who shot a 42, and Steege had the tiebreaker to finish as the runner-up. AP will host a triangular with Oelwein and South Hardin Thursday.
The girls track & field team placed 10th at the Hudson girls relays. Two events placed in the top three. The shuttle hurdle relay team placed second and Kinsey Mohwinkle placed second in the long jump. The Falcons will return to action Thursday at Dike-New Hartford.
The girls tennis team fell 7-2 at Dike-New Hartford. Adria Neymeyer won 8-5 at #1 singles and Neymeyer/Holly Haugstad won 8-2 at #2 doubles. Neymeyer on her quality performances.
“What went well for me was just working with the wind, knowing what shots I could take strong, what shots I could take not strong, and what shots I needed to go long,” Neymeyer says. “So that just really helped me with thinking and knowing what I was going to do next for the next play. What was not going well for me I would say is my volleys. I need to work on those. I need to just follow through more, focus more on it instead of just wanting to end the point and just not going through with it.”
Neymeyer is now 4-0. Head Coach Haley Schneiderman says the season has been a work in progress for the relatively inexperienced team.
“DNH is obviously a really good team,” Schneiderman says. “They’re pretty young too, but they got some pretty solid players up front. Peyton Klooster broke her racket to start off her meet. So that kind of threw her off the rest of the night too, for her match. But we just gotta keep practicing. Some of our girls are starting to pick it up. We obviously had a fresh team this year. A lot of the girls just started, you know, two weeks ago, but they’re starting to come along. They’re starting to pick it up. So I’m hoping by the end of the season, we’ll start getting some more of them coming along and get our varsity team kind of going a little better.”
The Falcons are 0-4 and will host Grundy Center Thursday.

The girls soccer team fell 2-0 at home to #9 (1A) Denver. The Cyclones were held off the scoreboard in the first half, but scored twice in the second half. The Falcons will host Clear Lake Friday.
