Grundy Center spring sports update – 4/11/24

The Grundy Center tennis teams will be in action in different locations Thursday.

The boys will go for their first win of the season when they host 0-3 Hampton-Dumont-CAL. The Spartans are 0-3 and coming off an 8-1 loss to Waverly-Shell Rock on Monday. However, Tanner Laube is off to a 2-1 start at #1 singles. The meet will start at 4:15 p.m. at George Wilhelm Sports Complex.

The underclassman-heavy girls tennis team is 0-2 and is looking for their first match win, having dropped both duals 9-0. AP has swept the last three meetings. The meet will begin at 4:15 p.m. at the Aplington Recreation Complex.

The boys golf team is off to a strong start, having won their first two triangulars. They’ll join Wapsie Valley at a triangular at Waterloo Columbus. Reigning state champion Judd Jirovsky has led the team with a 35.5 nine hole average, a half stroke under par. The meet will begin at 4:15 p.m. at Gates Park Golf Course.

The boys track & field team is coming off a first place finish at Jesup on Tuesday, and will join a wide variety of teams at the Hudson Pirate Relays at 4:30.
