As we near the beginning of summer, the city of Hampton is reminding residents to be safety conscious with their private swimming pools.
Hampton city code requires building permits for “in-ground” swimming pools and zoning permits for “above-ground” swimming pools with sidewalls exceeding 26 inches in height.
The city also reminds residents that swimming pools should be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition and in good repair. Pools under 24 inches in depth should be emptied when not in use to avoid unsupervised use as well as stagnant water. Private swimming pool owners should check with their insurance carrier to ensure proper liability coverage and steps or ladders should be removed to prevent access when the pool is not in use.
Permit applications can be found online at hamptonia.us or at city hall.
