One Aplington-Parkersburg spring sports team completed a scheduled event Thursday. The boys track & field team placed seventh with 38 points at the Hudson Pirate Relays. First place: Kael Stotler – shot put. Second place: 4×800-meter relay. Third place – Kael Stotler – 100-meter dash. The Falcons will host a coed meet Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The girls track & field team competed at the Lady Wolverine Invitational at Dike-New Hartford, which was cancelled after five events due to weather. The Falcons placed sixth with 17 points. The Falcons had one top three finisher, which was a first place finish by Kinsey Mohwinkle in the long jump. They’ll host a coed meet Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The boys golf team began a home triangular with Oelwein and South Hardin, but it was cancelled after players completed their fourth or fifth holes. They’ll host Grundy Center and Iowa Falls-Alden for a triangular Friday at 4:15 p.m. at Legend Trail Golf Club.

The girls tennis team was scheduled to host Grundy Center, but the meet was cancelled. The Falcons will go for their first win when they host Independence Friday at 4:15 p.m. at the Aplington Recreation Complex.

In other Friday action, the boys tennis team will play at #4 (1A) Decorah. The 1-2 Falcons will face their third ranked opponent so far. Head Coach Dave Price says the rise of the program over the last few seasons has earned them the chance to regularly compete against the state’s best teams.

“I think it’s something that, you know, the state knows these names,” Price says. “They see that label behind them afterwards, which is their grade. They all saw junior and sophomore last year, and they realized these guys are naturally going to be better. Tate Neymeyer has made a name for himself just by qualifying for state. And so they’re aware of it. And that’s actually helped us in our scheduling. You know, we’re playing some different teams this year that are good teams, and they want to play us and we want to play them to get a feel for, you know, kind of where we’re at, and for other teams to kind of gauge themselves against us.”

The meet will start at 4:00 at the Decorah High School courts.

The soccer teams will host a doubleheader with Clear Lake. The Falcon girls will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the AP/DNH boys at 7:00.
