Two Dike-New Hartford spring sports teams completed scheduled events Thursday. The boys track & field team placed fourth with 61 points at the Hudson Pirate Relays. First place finishes: 4×100-meter relay, Dawson Dietrick – discus. Second place finishes: shuttle hurdle relay, Cameron Decker – 100-meter dash. The Wolverines will be in action Tuesday by hosting a meet.

The girls track & field team hosted the Lady Wolverine Invitational, which completed five events before it was cancelled due to weather. The Wolverines placed fifth with 20 points. Third place finishes: Chloe Paulsen – long jump, 4×800-meter relay. They’ll compete at Hudson Monday.

The Wolverine boys and DNH/AP girls golf teams began a home invitational with East Marshall and Jesup, but it was cancelled shortly after it started. They’ll host an invitational Saturday.

The girls soccer team lost 4-1 at home to #7 (1A) Hudson. The Wolverines got on the board in the first half, but the Pirates scored twice each in the first and second halves to pull away for the win. DNH is now 4-2 and will host GC-GR on Thursday, April 18, a game that’ll air on 99 The Wave.

The girls tennis team will travel to Webster City for a non-conference meet. At 4-0, Head Coach Reegan Zinkula says underclassmen in their first year of varsity action, such as sophomores Addy Joslin and Abrielle Pokorny, have played a key role in the hot start.

“They’ve really stepped up,” Zinkula says. “I’ve been really pleased and really proud of each and every one of them. Last year, I knew that these spots were going to be opening up just because we had a lot of seniors leaving and they attacked it head on. They’re very coachable. They’re very willing to learn and grow as we go. They’re willing to work together. They’re a fantastic group of girls and every night they’re continuing to get better and better.”

The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Webster City High School courts.
