The Grundy Center boys track & field team took the title at Thursday’s Hudson Pirate Relays with 152.5 points. First place finishes: Tyler Venenga – 800-meter run, 4×400-meter relay, Kaden Lynch – 3200-meter run, sprint medley relay, shuttle hurdle relay. Second place finishes: Grant Newton – 200-meter dash, Tate Jirovsky – 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles, Emerson Vokes – 1600-meter run, Tiernan Vokes – high jump, distance medley relay. Third place finishes: Brayden Wallis – 400-meter dash, Tiernan Vokes – 110-meter hurdles, 4×100-meter relay, shuttle hurdle relay (second team). The Spartans will be at the Falcon Coed Invitational at Aplington-Parkersburg Friday at 4:30 p.m.
The boys golf team won a triangular at Waterloo Columbus with 151 strokes. The Sailors shot a 159 and Wapsie Valley was a distant third with a 200. Judd Jirovsky was the runner-up with a 36. The Spartans will play in a triangular at Aplington-Parkersburg Friday at Legend Trail Golf Club at 4:15 p.m.
Both tennis teams were scheduled to compete. The home boys meet against Hampton-Dumont-CAL and the girls meet at Aplington-Parkersburg were postponed. The girls will be at Hampton-Dumont-CAL Friday at 4:15 p.m. at Progress Park in Hampton and the boys will host Iowa Falls-Alden Monday.
In other Friday action, the girls golf team will join East Marshall at a triangular hosted by BCLUW at South Hardin Recreation Area in Union at 4:15. The girls track & field team will be at the Falcon Coed Invitational.
