A school record was broken Friday night when Aplington-Parkersburg senior Kael Stotler completed the 100-meter dash in 11.14 seconds at the Falcon Coed Invitational.

“After last year’s performance, I wasn’t happy with myself,” Stotler says. “I knew I had more to give. And especially since for football this year, I was injury prone again. So I just wanted something that I could excel at. And I was decently fast, and we were just able to pull it out tonight. We’ve been walking by that board every day for four years now. A long time. But yeah, never did I think I was going to break it. I’m extremely blessed, extremely happy with what I have right now.”

The mark surpassed the previous record of 11.24, set by Jason Grill in 2012. Head Coach Mark Haren says it was one of the older program records.

“We’ve probably set a majority of our school records since maybe 2015, 16, 17, but that one’s been around a little bit,” Haren says. “That was Jason Grill back in the day. And yeah, what a great time to do it in front of the home crowd. And he’s been working on it. That kid works on his craft as much as anybody. I thought he actually maybe had a shot at the 200 record also. Missed that just by a couple tenths. He’s hoping for that one too. Then he won the shot put, ran a 400 for the first time in three years and got second in that event. So a really good night for him.”

Stotler placed second in the 100 and 400 and won the 200 and shot put. The Falcons will return to action Monday at Hampton-Dumont-CAL.
