The Grundy Center girls track & field team won the title with 104 points at Monday’s Hudson Relays. The Spartans have won all four outdoor meets they’ve competed in so far.
First place finishes: 4×400-meter relay, 4×800-meter relay, Grace Storjohann – 1500-meter run, Carlie Willis – high jump. Second place finishes: Ava Heeren – 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Third place finishes: 4×100-meter relay, distance medley relay. The Spartans will host a meet Thursday after Tuesday’s meet at Oelwein was cancelled.
The boys track & field team placed second with 128 points at the Wolverine Invitational at Dike-New Hartford, behind Denver’s 133. First place finishes: Judd Jirovsky – 400-meter dash, Tyler Venenga – 800-meter run, Tiernan Vokes – 110-meter hurdles, shuttle hurdle relay, 4×400-meter relay. Second place finishes: sprint medley relay, distance medley relay, Devin Hinders – high jump. Third place finishes: Judd Jirovsky – long jump, 4×100-meter relay, Kasey Seitz – shot put. They’ll return to action Thursday at Denver.
The boys tennis team earned a 9-0 home win over Iowa Falls-Alden. Kael Edwards and Remington Tack won set three tiebreakers at #5 and #6 singles. Tanner Laube won 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles. The Spartans are 1-3 and will be at Oelwein Friday.
The girls tennis team fell 9-0 at Iowa Falls-Alden. Lilly Lewis/Jasmine Hjelle at #2 singles forced the longest match, falling 8-4. The Spartans are now 1-3 and will be at Charles City Tuesday at 4:00.
In other Tuesday action, the West Marshall Girls Golf Tournament has been rescheduled to Monday, April 22.
