The Aplington-Parkersburg boys tennis team got back to .500 with a 7-2 win at Columbus Catholic Thursday. The Falcons won all but #4 and #6 singles. At #1 singles, Tate Neymeyer won a 6-1, 6-2 match against previously undefeated Parker Stroh. They’ll return to action Saturday at Waverly-Shell Rock.
The girls tennis team lost 9-0 to the #3 (1A) Sailors. They’re now 2-5 and will be at Union Monday.
The boys golf team won its third meet of the season with 156 strokes at a triangular at La Porte City Golf Club. Hudson scored a 161 and Union shot 181. Cormick Steege, Mason Ridder, Caleb Campbell and Jace Pruisner each shot a 39 to tie for second place, and Steege was awarded runner-up honors. They’ll return to action by hosting an 18-hole tournament on Monday, with nine holes each being played at the Aplington Recreation Complex and Legend Trail Golf Club.
The boys track & field team placed fourth with 68 points at the Penick Relays at BCLUW. First place: Kael Stotler – shot put. Second place: Gavin Thomas – 400-meter dash, Gabe Mostek – shot put, Corbin Wyant – discus. Third place: Sully Janssen – 400-meter dash. They’ll next compete at a home coed meet Tuesday.
The girls track & field team placed fourth with 72.5 points at the Norsemen Relays at Roland-Story. First place: Ava Eddy – 400-meter hurdles, shuttle hurdle relay. Second place: 4×200-meter relay, 4×400-meter relay. Third place – Kennedy Kalkwarf – 400-meter dash. They’ll return to action Monday at Marshalltown.
The girls soccer team lost 3-0 at #8 (1A) Denver. The Cyclones scored once in the first half and twice in the second half. Goalkeeper Emma Haan recorded 24 saves. The 4-4 Falcons will be at Union Friday.
The #7 (2A) AP/DNH United won 4-1 at Denver, scoring twice in each half. Jayce Jensen, Walker Weedman, Ty Luhring and Jackson Mulder each scored. Adrian Huisman recorded eight saves. The United are 8-1 and will host #6 (2A) Webster City Friday at 5:30.
