Aplington-Parkersburg spring sports update – 4-22-24

The Aplington-Parkersburg boys tennis team fell 8-1 at Waverly-Shell Rock Saturday. The win was by Tate Neymeyer/Gabe Jacobson at #2 doubles, winning 10-7 in a set 3 tiebreaker. Neymeyer at #1 singles, Seth Orta at #3 singles and Keegan Bolhuis at #4 singles each lost in set 3 tiebreakers. The Falcons are 3-4.

In Monday action, the boys golf team will host an 18-hole tournament. Each team will play nine holes at both Legend Trail Golf Club and the Aplington Recreation Complex. Teams beginning in Aplington: AGWSR, Aplington-Parkersburg, Denver, Grundy Center, Humboldt, Waterloo Columbus and Waverly-Shell Rock. Teams beginning in Parkersburg: Colo-Nesco, Dike-New Hartford, East Marshall, Sumner-Fredericksburg, Wapsie Valley and West Marshall. The tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The girls tennis team will look to get back in the win column by playing at 1-3 Union. The Falcons are 2-5. The meet will start at 4:15 at the Union High School courts.

The track & field teams will be in action in different locations. The girls will compete at Marshalltown and will be the only team outside of Class 4A in attendance. It’ll start at 4:30. The boys will compete at an invitational at Waverly-Shell Rock, where they’ll join Dike-New Hartford and South Hardin among NICL teams in attendance. It’ll start at 5:00.

The soccer teams will take on Columbus Catholic. In a game that’ll air on 99 The Wave, the #7 (2A) AP/DNH boys will look to bounce back from their second loss, a 4-2 home defeat against #6 (2A) Webster City Friday. The United continue to perform at an elite level offensively, leading Class 2A with 53 goals scored. The Sailors are 0-6, having lost 9-0 to Hudson Thursday. The game will start at 5:00 p.m. in Aplington.

At 5-4, the Falcon girls will look to remain above .500 when they take on the 1-6 Sailors in Waterloo. The game will begin at 5:30.
