The Aplington-Parkersburg boys golf team placed fifth at a home 18-hole tournament, where teams played nine holes each at Legend Trail Golf Club and the Aplington Recreation Complex. The Falcons finished with 348 strokes, and were led by Jace Pruisner, who scored an 82 to place seventh. They’ll join South Hardin at a triangular at Dike-New Hartford Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. at Fox Ridge Golf Course.

The #8 (2A) AP/DNH boys soccer team beat Waterloo Columbus 9-1, as aired on 99 The Wave. The United scored six times, including three times in the final four minutes of the first half, to pull away. Walker Weedman connected on all six shots on goal. Kellen Reints, Preston Janssen and Aiden Merrill each scored once. Head Coach Perry Bernard says it was a strong finish to the first half.

“We kind of had a little slow start,” Bernard says. “We always have that talk about don’t underestimate any team, go out like it’s the hardest team you’re ever gonna play. We kind of went out a little bit slow, slow start, but by the end of that first half, they started coming together and passes were coming together. And we talked a lot about not rushing the shot when they have an opportunity. We were kind of doing that in the first half of the first half. And then we kind of started to clean it up again and started taking some more controlled, kind of like little pooch shots, and that kind of started to pay off.”

The United are 9-2 and will be at #8 (1A) Hudson Tuesday at 5:00.
