The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report shows that drought conditions continue to improve in Iowa. Through Tuesday, the coverage area for extreme drought in Iowa dropped from 7.43 percent last week to 2.66 percent this week.
Last week, extreme drought conditions could be found in Butler, Franklin, Cerro Gordo and Floyd counties. This week’s report shows no extreme drought in the broadcast area.
Severe drought conditions can be found in Butler, Grundy, Floyd, most of Franklin, eastern Cerro Gordo, most of Wright and the northeast 2-3rds of Hardin County.
The rest of the broadcast area is in a moderate drought or experiencing abnormally dry conditions.
The coverage area for no drought conditions in Iowa increased to 23.52 percent this week, up from 14.71 percent last week.
