Monday, the Hampton City Council held a workshop meeting and received an update on nuisance properties in the city. Police chief Mark Morrison and public works director Doug Tarr informed the council that they are working to complete court-ordered cleanups. Tarr also informed the council that he will have the final numbers from the recent community cleanup at the next council workshop meeting.
In other business, city manager Ron Dunt presented the council with wage comparisons for park/cemetery part-time, seasonal mowers from other similar-sized cities. The consensus of the council was to increase the starting wage to $14 per hour, $15 for first-year returning and $15.50 per hour for the second year returning. The council will vote on the wages during Thursday’s regular meeting.
