The first of numerous area conference championships will happen Monday. The North Iowa Cedar League Girls Tennis Tournament will be held at Byrnes Park in Waterloo.

Aplington-Parkersburg is coming off a third place finish at last year’s meet, and junior Adria Neymeyer is a favorite to appear in the #1 singles championship match. Neymeyer is ranked #4 in 1A, and Kate Holton of Waterloo Columbus is #2 in 1A.

From a team perspective, Falcon Head Coach Haley Schneiderman looks forward to seeing the team’s work throughout the season be put to the test.

“I’ll be interested to see how we face some of those teams,” Schneiderman says. “Grundy, we haven’t played yet either, so it’ll just be good. South Hardin, too, I feel like we’ve improved since we played South Hardin. So I’m kind of curious how some of the girls do against some of those South Hardin girls at conference. It’ll just be fun to see all those area teams back again.”

Dike-New Hartford finished second in last year’s tournament. Izzy Norton at #2 singles, Addy Joslin at #4 singles and Indee Grassley at #5 singles are some positions where the Wolverines could contend for titles.

South Hardin’s Mea Wilaby leads the league in wins at #6 singles.

The coaches meeting will be at 8:30 a.m., and the tournament will begin shortly after.
