The Dike-New Hartford girls soccer team scored early and held on for a 1-0 win at GC-GR Tuesday. It was originally scheduled to be the season opener, but it was rescheduled due to weather.

In the first half, Lucy Varney scored an unassisted goal to put the Wolverines up 1-0. The stifling defense kept the Rebels out of scoring position for the majority of the game, and Miranda Tyler recorded seven saves.
It was the fourth straight win by the Wolverines, all of which have come in shutout fashion. It was the second straight game they won 1-0, having defeated Aplington-Parkersburg by the same score Monday.
Varney’s goal was her seventh of the season, which ties Ana Bering for the team lead for the season.
The Wolverines are 9-4 and will be at #7 (1A) Hudson Friday. The Pirates won 4-1 when the teams met earlier in the season.
