The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Iowa Falls-Alden girls track and field teams are scheduled for a competitive evening at the North Central Conference meet in Hampton on Thursday.

NCC leaders for HD-CAL include Charlee Morton with the top throws in the shot put and discus, Teaghan Bird- 2nd in the 400m hurdles, Abby Drier- 4th in the 100m hurdles, and Lily Hambly ranked 5th in the 400m and high jump. HD-CAL Coach Nicole Donnenwerth says with a driven group of competitors, the goal is to place top-3 at conference.

“We’re just going to continue that theme of tiny but mighty with our 11 competitors,” says Donnenwerth “We’ve had so many highlights every time that it’s performance time, it’s competition time, they have stepped up and have been giving me everything that they’ve got. I think we can score in the top three in our conference, so that’s the agenda. It’s going to look a little different as far as our roster goes, excited to see that for sure.”

CGD’s Mikayla Beisel is ranked 2nd in the NCC in the 100m hurdles and high jump, and third in the 400m hurdles and long jump. CGD Coach Monty Harker says the focus is working on technique and striving for their best.

“Primarily this time of year, all you can do is fine tune, work on technique, whatever you can do to shave a tenth of a second or an inch or two here or there,” says Harker. “It really can make all the difference in some of those meets. One good thing about track, if you do your personal best, no matter where you place, that’s a successful season, so that’s what we try and focus on.”

IFA is led by Isabelle Janssen with the top time in 100m hurdles in the NCC and Danika Reicks is ranked 2nd in the 3000m and 5th in the 800m.

The meet begins at 5:00 p.m. There will also be top of the hour reports on the latest results from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on 104.9 KLMJ.
