While the rain has been a welcome sight in recent weeks in the area, not all of the corn and soybean crops have been planted, due to the wet conditions.
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Angie Rieck-Hinz tells Radio on the Go News that it will take several more days for farmers to be back out in their fields.
“As you well know, we have lots of planting date studies that show us our optimum time for planting corn. And really up until about May 20th, at least for corn, we still can achieve 95% yield potential. And I think for soybeans, it’s up to May 18th or 20th, it’s still a really high yield potential somewhere around 93 to 95%. We have some time. There’s no point panicking right at this point in time. But I do think the more days we go by without planting, people are going to start becoming more concerned about that.”
