The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys golf team dodged the early morning rain and hosted six area teams for an 18 hole invite on Saturday at the Hampton Country Club.
Iowa Falls-Alden was the team champion with a 337. The Cadets were led by a round of 78 by Karsen Kalous that included five birdies for a runner-up finish. Kale Kalous and Colton England rounded out the top 3 for the Cadets with rounds of 85 and 86 respectively.
IFA Assistant Boys Golf Coach Chase Kalous says the Cadets execution in their short game helped them excel.
“Our chipping and putting we did well and I think that’s where we really need to excel,” says Kalous. “We had some wayward drives but we fought back and we got ourselves out of trouble, we did a very nice job with that today.”
Hampton-Dumont-CAL placed 3rd with a 362. Tucker Heeren turned in the top score for the Bulldogs with an 83.
North Butler finished 5th with a 384. Nolan Reser led the Bearcats with an 84.
HD-CAL and IFA return to the course for the North Central Conference tournament at Fort Dodge Country Club on Monday. North Butler will be at the Top of Iowa East tournament at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City on Monday.
