The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls and boys soccer teams will kickoff the final week of the regular season with split matches against Garner-Hayfield-Ventura. The Bulldog girls will have a tough road test at the #15(2A) Cardinals. The 6-6 Bulldog boys following a win over Denver and loss to #7(2A) Decorah at Waverly on Saturday, will host winless G-H-V for senior night and will recognize 13 seniors.
Boys Soccer Head Coach Danielle Arana says it’s the Bulldogs time to shine by leaving it all on the field in the final stretch of the year.
“We’ve been really working hard to build this program, we get better and better every year,” says Arana. “Some of these top players, these starters this year, they started as freshmen when we were really turning the program around. This is their year, their time to shine, their time to prove that they’ve been learning all of these years. I think they could pull it off 100%. We just got to see what they have to give us now.”
Both matches begin at 5:30 p.m.
The HD-CAL boys and girls golf teams will tee off championship season with separate North Central Conference tournaments on Monday. The boys following a 3rd place finish at home tournament on Saturday will be at the Fort Dodge Country Club. The girls after placing second in five team meet at Clear Lake on Thursday will be at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone.
Girls Golf Coach Dustin Moorehead says shot management around the green and at the hole are key.
“100 yards in, we want to be better than anybody else that we can be better than,” says Moorehead. “Whatever club it takes to get it to that 100 yards, if we miss the green, we want to be able to hit a bump and run chip that we practice or some sort of lofted type of chip that we also practice. We work on, that we don’t want three putts, no three putts. We want to, if we can one putt, great, that’s awesome, that’s a stroke up in my opinion. We always want to make all of our putts in two strokes.”
Both tournaments begin at 10 a.m.
The HD-CAL girls tennis team will be at the Class 1A Region 6 Singles and Doubles tournament hosted by Decorah. First serve is at 9 a.m.
