A man who possessed a firearm as a prohibited person and possessed methamphetamine with the intent to distribute pled guilty Friday in federal court in Sioux City.
23-year-old Tirrell Harlan Hopkins, Junior of Mason City was convicted on two charges.
Hopkins admitted that on or about November 18th, 2023, he knowingly possessed a firearm. At the time, he possessed the gun, he knew he was a user of illegal drugs, had been convicted of a felony, and convicted of domestic violence, all of which prohibited him from legally possessing a gun.
He was also in possession of meth and intended to distribute some or all of the illegal drug to another person.
Hopkins faces a potential of a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years up to life in federal prison. No sentencing date has been set.
