Today the Iowa Court of Appeals denied an appeal by a 67-year-old Webster City man who was convicted on three charges in Hardin County District Court for allegedly abusing one of his granddaughters.

Dean Hilpipre was found guilty of 2nd degree sexual abuse, lascivious acts with a minor, and 3rd degree sexual abuse following a trial by a judge in 2022.

Hilpipre, who used to live in Alden, claimed that an expert witness improperly vouched for the credibility of the child complaining witness, and that the convictions were not supported by substantial evidence. However, the court of appeals rejected his claims.

Hilpipre is serving his 25 year sentence at the state prison in Clarinda.
