The teams battled through a scoreless first half. With 30:43 left in the second half, a crossfield pass from Payton Foster set Lucy Varney up for an arcing shot over the goaltender to take a 1-0 lead. With 5:23 left in regulation, the Wolverines doubled their lead when Varney cleared the ball away from heavy traffic in front of the goal and found the net. Hanna Steffen was credited with the assist. Miranda Tyler recorded 15 saves.
The Wolverines are 11-4 and have extended their win streak to six games. They’ll close the regular season by hosting Center Point-Urbana Friday. The Cadets are 10-3 and will host #15 (1A) Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Thursday.
