Girls tennis team regional postseason play will begin Friday.
Several local schools will play at Byrnes Park in Waterloo in 1A Region 1. Aplington-Parkersburg will play Hampton-Dumont-CAL in the first round, and the winner will advance to take on either Waverly-Shell Rock or Union. After falling in the first round last season, Falcon junior Peyton Klooster says the team has a high ceiling.
“I think this year’s group is such a hardworking group that they’re not willing to back down from anything,” Klooster says. “And I think that also shows within our team leadership as well as our team ethic. And I think that that will really show and come down to what teams are looking for. It’s not just the talent that you provide, but also the mental state and how you work as a team. So I think that will really be key in Friday’s games. And so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Iowa Falls-Alden will play Grundy Center, with the winner advancing to play either South Hardin or Independence. The Cadets defeated the Spartans 9-0 when they met earlier this season.
Dike-New Hartford is in 1A Region 4, and will play Oelwein at Clear Lake. The Wolverines won 9-0 when the teams met earlier this year. The winner will advance to play either Clear Lake or Osage.
The first round will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the second round is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The duals will end when a team wins five matches. They’ll start with singles and continue with doubles if necessary.
