The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls and boys soccer teams will kickoff postseason action on Monday.

The HD-CAL girls will be at GC-GR in Class 1A Region 2 first round. The Bulldog girls look to keep their season alive with their first win, with two goals scored this season. Freshman Madison Heilskov and senior Teaghan Bird have spent time at goalkeeper for the Bulldogs, and each hold a save percentage near 70%.

Head Girls Soccer Coach Ben Schlachter says each match helps the girls to exercise new skills and build on the fundamentals.

“The girls to get out there and compete, and put these new skills that they’re learning to the test,” says Schlachter. “You can work on fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals all day in practice, but you know, the proof’s in the pudding when you step on the field of competition. Jackie’s taught them so much more this year. I’m just excited for them to get out there and put it to play.”

The match will air on 99 The Wave, pregame at 6:50 and action at 7:00 p.m. in Reinbeck. The winner will advance to take on #2 (1A) Gilbert, the region’s top seed.

The #4-seed HD-CAL boys will host #5-seed South Tama in opening round of Class 2A Substate 2. The Bulldog boys enter at 7-7. Senior Boyan Roussev netted 15 goals to lead scoring and defensively junior goalkeeper Jose Aragon pulled down a save percentage of 88.4%.

Head Boys Soccer Coach Danielle Arana says rebuilding confidence was a focal point entering the postseason.

“I feel like we’ve kind of flip-flopped a little bit on a couple of games and it’s unfortunate we’ve had a couple bad days, we’ve had some cards, we’ve had some things that kind of make them question their playing a little bit,” says Arana. “I just hope that we can really rebuild all of their confidence, so that they can come into this postseason really strong. I know that, like I said before I still think it’s their time, this is their year. We have good seniors, we have great supporting subs, we have everything it takes. They just got to believe in themselves and I feel like we’ll be there.”

The match will air on 104.9 KLMJ, pregame at 6:50 and action at 7:00 p.m. in Hampton. The winner will advance to take on top-seeded #3 (2A) Webster City.

The HD-CAL baseball team following a 15-15 campaign last year will host Boone for season opener on Monday. First Pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
