The #7 (2A) AP/DNH boys soccer team will begin what they’re hoping is a long postseason run when they host West Delaware in a 2A substate semifinal Monday.
The United are coming off a 13-4 regular season, by far the best in the program’s brief history. Entering postseason play, the team leads Class 2A in goals scored with 91, and assists with 75. The potent offense has three double figure scorers, led by Walker Weedman with 23, Ty Luhring with 15 and Jackson Mulder with 10. It’s been over a week since their regular season finale at a tournament at Independence.
West Delaware is 3-12, but earned a 3-2 overtime win at Vinton-Shellsburg in last week’s first round. Ethan Grawe leads with five goals. The team has been shut out in seven of its 15 games.
The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Aplington with coverage beginning at 6:50 on 99 The Wave. If the United win, they’d host either Center Point-Urbana or Solon in New Hartford for Wednesday’s substate final.
