The #12 (1A) Dike-New Hartford girls soccer team will play in a 1A regional semifinal at #15 (1A) Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Wednesday. It was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but postponed due to weather.

At 13-4, the Wolverines have put together an eight-game win streak, six of which have been shutouts. They advanced with a 3-1 win over Aplington-Parkersburg in last week’s regional quarterfinal. The defense has been a staple, compiling a save percentage of 95, among the best in Class 1A. Head Coach Emma Eden says offensive improvement will be a key.

“I think it’s just making sure that we are looking to possess in our offensive attack,” Eden says. “Our strongest defense is our offense. So just making sure that we are finding that and our possession and building it there.”

Lucy Varney leads with 12 goals.

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura is 13-1, with the only loss coming to Iowa Falls-Alden, a team the Wolverines beat earlier in the season. They advanced with a 2-0 win over Clear Lake in last week’s regional quarterfinal. They’ve compiled one of the best offenses in Class 1A, with the fifth-most goals and fourth-most assists. Bella Schisel leads the team with 31 goals, the third-most in Class 1A.
The game will start at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to Thursday’s regional final against either #2 (1A) Gilbert or Humboldt.
