DNH, AP tennis players earn podium placings at girls state singles & doubles

Three local student-athletes earned podium placings at the Class 1A Girls State Singles & Doubles Tennis Tournament in Iowa City Saturday.

The Dike-New Hartford doubles pair of Izzy Norton/Aida Tott took seventh place. They began their day with a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-6) loss to Bryn Higginbotham/Claire Smock of Pella. In the seventh place match, they defeated the other Pella duo of Alloree Else/Lily VanDusseldorp in three sets to claim seventh place.

Aplington-Parkersburg junior Peyton Klooster earned eighth place in singles. She began her day with a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Ishita Mukadam of Maharishi. In the seventh place match, she fell in three sets to Kaitlyn Zugay of Ballard, which was a rematch of the first round match. Klooster won a set after being swept in the first meeting between the two, and took eight place.
