The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors this week authorized the board chair to sign a letter of support for the Wright County Conservation Department to develop the Prairie Land Trail between Belmond and Meservey.

The proposed project includes the development of about 7-tenths of one mile of the trail in Cerro Gordo County.

To date, Cerro Gordo County has developed around 14 miles of the Prairie Land Trail from Mason City to Thornton. One additional mile is scheduled for construction this year.

Depending on funding, the goal is to have the Prairie Land Trail become a regional cycling destination that will connect numerous North Iowa communities and the counties of Cerro Gordo, Franklin and Wright.
