Monday night, the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs hosted the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets on the baseball diamond and the visitors handed their hosts a shutout in the form of a 6-0 decision. I-F-A came into the matchup looking for their first win of the season, and they were able to earn it behind a strong performance on the mound from Freshman Pitcher, Hayden Reed.
Cadet Head Coach, Wyatt Ziesman says his team has been growing with a young squad.
“We’ve been getting a lot better defensively,” says Ziesman. “The main thing we knew in order to take some growth with a really young team is we just had to keep the momentum going and stay loose, make the sound defensive plays that you’re expected to make, and get guys on base and move them into scoring position. We were able to do that today and this time come away with a win, it felt good.”
The Cadets were also led by Senior Ray Morgan, Jr. who had 3 RBI out of their 6 runs . Reed earned the win on the mound with 5 innings pitched, no runs allowed and 5 strikeouts. Only 3 batters for H-D-CAL were able to get a hit as the Bulldogs fall to 2-9 on the season. After Tuesday’s game against Osage was cancelled due to impending weather, they will prepare for a road matchup against St.Edmond on Wednesday. Iowa Falls-Alden is now 1-6-1 for the 2024 baseball campaign. The Cadets will face Algona on Wednesday night in a North Central Conference matchup in Iowa Falls.
