The Aplington-Parkersburg baseball and softball teams will play at Oelwein in NICL crossover games Wednesday.
The baseball team will play after a longer than anticipated break. Tuesday’s home game against Grundy Center was postponed due to weather. At 4-3 and 4-2 in conference play, the Falcons are coming off a doubleheader sweep at Hudson Monday, where quality pitching proved to be the difference. Devin Davis got the win in both games, pitching the complete second game after 1.1 innings of relief in the first game. He struck out 12 batters in 8.1 innings.
Oelwein is 3-7 and 1-3 in the NICL-East. They were swept by home by Sumner-Fredericksburg Monday, falling 11-1 in six innings and 6-0. They haven’t registered much offense, with a team average of .178.
At 2-6 and 2-4 in conference play, the Falcon softball team will look to snap a five-game losing streak. They fell 11-1 in five innings and 6-1 in a doubleheader at Hudson Monday, but will build on the momentum of four straight shutout innings defensively.
Oelwein is 3-8 and 2-1 in conference play, and competed close in 6-4 and 6-1 losses to #8 (3A) Sumner-Fredericksburg in a home doubleheader Monday. Jaylynn Craun leads offensively with 12 hits and a .462 average. The tandem of Aspen Weir and Ella Kinser have split the pitching work throughout the season.
Both games will start at 7:00 p.m.
