The Iowa Falls-Alden baseball team will look to end an up and down week on a high note as they host Webster City in North Central Conference play on Friday.

The Cadets are 1-7-1 following their first win of the season 6-0 over HD-CAL on Monday and a 13-5 loss to Algona on Wednesday. Junior Andrew Bartlett has driven in five RBI and Junior Keaton Mulford has driven in four RBI to lead the Cadets.

Head Coach Wyatt Ziesman says having runners active on the base pads has helped run production.

“We have a pretty athletic crew, a lot of young guys who got some speed,” says Ziesman. “We feel comfortable putting the pressure on the defense in high school ball. If we put pressure on the defense, there’s a chance of mistakes happening. We feel comfortable with moving some of those guys around. Then guys step up and get timely hits after we start moving some guys around and that really helped us open up the scoring.”

The Cadets are 27 of 28 on stolen base attempts this season. On the mound, IFA Freshman Hayden Reed has a 1.24 ERA and 14 strikeouts and tracked down his first career win on Monday night.

Webster City is 6-6 overall. A top performer for the Lynx is Sophomore Jaxon Griffith with .351 avg, 13 hits, seven RBI and a North Central Conference leading 16 stolen bases. Senior Keagan Hisler leads on the mound with 24 strikeouts.

First pitch is at 7:30 p.m. in Iowa Falls.

The Iowa Falls-Alden softball team fell 5-3 to #14(4A) Webster City on Thursday. All three runs for the Cadets were scored on Lynx errors as part of a 6th inning rally. Junior Cidni Phipps had a good outing in the circle, allowing one earned run with four strikeouts in seven innings. IFA moves to 3-5 overall (2-3 in the North Central Conference) and returns to the field at Humboldt on Monday.
