Local teams concluded Dave Lee Softball Tournament Saturday

Three local softball teams competed at Day 2 of the Dave Lee Tournament at BCLUW Saturday. AGWSR lost 10-4 to #6 (3A) Sumner-Fredericksburg and fell to BCLUW 7-2. #12 (2A) South Hardin fell to Gilbert 7-2 and lost to Marshalltown 3-1. Grundy Center defeated Marshalltown 5-4 and lost to Gilbert 2-1.

In AGWSR’s first game, Sumner-Fredericksburg scored five runs in the second inning, and kept the bats alive with two runs each in the third and fourth. AGWSR added three runs in the fifth to pull closer. Trevyn Smith and Quinn Holmgaard each had two hits. Claire Culver pitched the complete game.

AGWSR struck first with one run in the top of the first against BCLUW, but the lead was short-lived as the Comets scored four runs in the bottom of the first. The Cougars added another run in the third but got no closer. Smith and Ella Diemer each had two hits. Brylea Metzgar pitched the complete game. AGWSR (1-11, 0-4 NICL-W) will host #12 (2A) South Hardin for a doubleheader Monday.

Marshalltown scored once each in the first, second, third and fourth innings in Grundy Center’s opener. The Spartans heated up with two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, and scored the winning run in the top of the seventh. Evelyn Geerdes led with three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Ava Mundt pitched the complete game.

Against Gilbert, Ava Heeren hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. But Gilbert scored two runs on one hit in the bottom of the seventh for the walkoff win. Lauren Zajac had two hits and Maddy Hendershot pitched the complete game. Grundy Center (6-8, 1-3 NICL-W) will host #11 (2A) East Marshall for a doubleheader Monday.

South Hardin gave up one run to Gilbert in the top of the first, and responded with one run in the third. But Gilbert added two runs each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to pull away. South Hardin added their last run in the seventh. Alli Sheldahl led with two hits and Hailey Rosonke pitched the complete game.
Against Marshalltown, the Tigers scored in the bottom of the second, and led 1-0 for most of the game. But the Bobcats scored each of their three runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Alyssa Kix had two hits and Charlee Rosonke pitched the complete game. South Hardin (8-9, 3-2 NICL-W) will be at AGWSR for a doubleheader Monday.
