South Hardin wins four over AGWSR Monday

The South Hardin summer sports teams both swept doubleheaders at AGWSR Monday. In softball, the Tigers won 15-0 in four innings and 5-2 in eight innings. In baseball, the Tigers won 7-5 and 9-6 in 11 innings.

In the first softball game, the Tigers scored twice in the first and five times in the second inning for a quick 7-0 lead. In the fourth, the Tigers did their most damage of the night with eight runs scored to pull away with the commanding lead. Throughout the game, the Tigers were aided with 11 walks and two hit by pitches. Grace Eller had three hits and Kaitlynn Dickes had two to lead South Hardin. Hailey Rosonke pitched the complete game with one hit, four strikeouts and no walks. Ella Diemer recorded the AGWSR hit. Brylea Metzgar and Leah Beving each pitched two innings.

In the second game, the Tigers scored once each in the third and fourth innings, but AGWSR did the same in the sixth and seventh to send it to extras. South Hardin scored three runs in the top of the eighth and held the Cougars off the board to secure the win. Alyssa Kix and Alli Sheldahl led the Tigers with two hits apiece. Charlee Rosonke pitched the first five innings with six strikeouts, no walks and four hits. Hailey Rosonke pitched the final three innings. Eight Cougars had one hit, including a triple by Trevyn Smith. Claire Culver pitched the complete game with four strikeouts, 12 walks and four hits. AGWSR (1-13, 0-6 NICL-W) will play at a tournament in Mason City Tuesday, where they’ll play Newman Catholic and Belmond-Klemme. South Hardin (10-9, 5-2 NICL-W) will be at Grundy Center Thursday.

In a back-and-forth first baseball game, South Hardin led 3-2 after the first inning, but the Cougars scored twice in the second for a 4-3 lead. South Hardin bounced back with two in the third for a 5-4 lead. In the fifth, the Tigers added two more runs, which the Cougars couldn’t match.

In the second baseball game, the teams went into extra innings tied at seven. They played three scoreless innings before the Tigers pulled away with three in the 11th to secure the win. South Hardin (6-4, 4-1 NICL-W) will host #1 (2A) West Marshall Tuesday. AGWSR (4-9, 2-3 NICL-W) has a week off and will play a doubleheader at Grundy Center on Monday, June 17.
