AGWSR Softball goes 1-1, Belmond-Klemme 0-2 in Tuesday triangular

The AGWSR softball team went 1-1 at Tuesday’s triangular at Belmond-Klemme. The Cougars fell to Newman Catholic 12-2 in five innings and defeated Belmond-Klemme 10-6. The Broncos fell to the Knights 14-5.

Against Newman, the Cougars gave up five runs in the bottom of the first inning, but responded with one each in the second and third. The Knights added five in the fourth and ended the game early with two in the fifth. Claire Culver had one hit to drive in one run. Brylea Metzgar hit a double. Leah Beving pitched 3.2 innings and Tori Metzgar pitched one inning of relief.

Belmond-Klemme scored five runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second to take an early 6-0 lead over AGWSR. But the Cougars responded well with all their runs coming unanswered. They scored twice each in the third and fourth, and six in the fifth. Trevyn Smith had two hits, including a double and an RBI. Cali Buseman had a triple that scored a run. Tori Metzgar pitched 4.2 innings with five strikeouts, four walks and three hits. Kendra Huedepohl led Belmond-Klemme with three hits and an RBI. Kaylen Morris pitched the complete game. AGWSR (2-14, 0-6 NICL-W) will be at Denver Thursday.

Newman scored three in the first and eight in the seventh to run away with the win over Belmond-Klemme. The Broncos rallied with three runs in the seventh. Ella Negrete had two hits with an RBI and pitched the first six innings. Belmond-Klemme (6-10, 3-5 TOI-W) will host Lake Mills Wednesday.
