The Iowa Falls-Alden summer sports teams following a rare day off are set to host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Wednesday night in North Central Conference play.
The 1-9-1 IFA baseball team in their last game fell 11-0 in five innings to Humboldt on Monday. The Cadets will look to bring opponent run production back down after giving up 10+ runs in their last three games. Freshman Hayden Reed leads on the hill with a 2.44 ERA and 15 strikeouts through four starts.
Cadets Head Baseball Coach Wyatt Ziesman says the series with CGD has been competitive and limiting errors will keep them in the game.
“Clarion, they’re going to play us tough, they have the last couple of years, it’s always been a dog fight with us and Clarion,” says Ziesman. “I expect us to approach it loose and ready to go and try to make the fundamental routine plays you’re supposed to make. If we can limit our errors and have some good strikes over the plate, most games we could be right there in the ball game with people.”
The 6-8 CGD baseball team sprinted to a 20-6 win over Rockford on Tuesday. The Cowboys are led on the mound by Senior Carson Nesheim, who recently achieved a new career highlight, as he pitched a perfect game with 16 strikeouts in win over Southeast Valley on Thursday.
The game will air on 104.9 KLMJ with pregame coverage at 5:20 p.m. followed by the first pitch at 5:30 p.m. in Iowa Falls.
The CGD softball team continues on the trail for their first win after a 12-8 loss to Rockford on Tuesday. Sophomore Tess Wibholm had a quality outing in the loss allowing only three earned runs with 14 strikeouts in six innings.
Cowgirls Softball Head Coach Jill Stanton says adjusting timing to produce quality plate appearances is ongoing.
“We are really working on our timing, our timing is not quite there,” says Stanton. “We’re not getting the foot down soon enough so we can get that bat on the ball. Making contact, we are really focusing on less strikeouts, less watch third strike, but we’ve got to work on that timing. We’re focusing on getting that foot down and getting our hips and hands to the ball and it’s a work in progress.”
The 3-6 IFA softball team enters off a 7-3 loss to Humboldt on Monday. Alivia Tupper with a .316 avg. has driven in eight runs.
First pitch is at 5:30 p.m.
