The Aplington-Parkersburg summer sports teams split at Waterloo Columbus Thursday in NICL-Central action. The baseball team lost 6-3 and the softball team won 3-2.
In the softball game, the Falcons scored once each in the second and fourth innings for a 2-0 lead. The Sailors scored two in the bottom of the sixth, putting pressure on the Falcons in the top of the seventh. They responded with the winning run, and the Sailors were held off the board in the bottom of the seventh. Jordan Trueblood had three hits, including a double. Avery Freund and Aubrey Williamson each had one RBI. Williamson pitched the complete game with two strikeouts, three walks and five hits. AP (6-8, 4-5 NICL-C) has swept the season series with the Sailors. They’ll be at #12 (2A) East Marshall on Wednesday, June 19, a game that’ll air on 99 The Wave.
The baseball team started hot with three runs in the first inning. But they were held scoreless afterwards. The Sailors scored once in the first and fourth, and twice in the third and fifth to take the lead and finish off the win. Nick Neuroth had two hits. Preston Janssen pitched 4.1 innings with six strikeouts, seven walks, two hit batters and five hits. AP (9-5, 5-4 NICL-C) will host Nashua-Plainfield in non-conference action Tuesday.
