National Weather Service Meteorologist Alexis Jimenez in Des Moines has the following safety tips to try and keep yourself cool on hot and humid days.

“Important to remember really basic tips. Of course, take breaks if you’re outside. Try to limit your activity in that peak heating window of the day. So talking, you know, 2 to 4 p.m. when it’s the warmest. Limit any strenuous outdoor activities. Make sure you stay hydrated. Use your sunscreen. Of course, if you’re in your vehicle. Try to use the air conditioning if you’ve got it. Don’t leave anybody in the vehicle when it’s off and sitting somewhere. And if you’re inside, of course, keep the air conditioning on if you can. And then check up on anyone that’s elderly or sick or anyone that’s sensitive to that heat.”

The extended outlook is calling for above normal temperatures until the end of this month.
